In the fabrication of flexible insulation blankets, valve/flange covers, and industrial thermal shields, gray single-sided PTFE-coated fiberglass fabric serves as a specialized protective textile.

Unlike double-sided coated materials, single-sided PTFE fabric applies a sintered polytetrafluoroethylene coating to one side of an E-glass woven substrate, while the reverse side maintains a controlled fiber texture. This structure delivers weatherability, chemical resistance, and hydrophobic/oleophobic properties on the working face, while providing mechanical grip against internal insulation cores (such as aerogels, ceramic blankets, or fiberglass mats).

1. Technical Parameters (0.4mm ADP-001 Reference Grade)

Structural & Physical Properties

Parameter Specification
Base Substrate Black Woven Fiberglass
Coating Profile Single-sided PTFE coating with a black fiberglass reverse
Color Dark grey coated face / black fiberglass reverse
Nominal Thickness 0.40 mm
Areal Weight Approximately 570–580 g/m²
Continuous Temperature Range -70°C to +260°C (-94°F to +500°F)

Mechanical & Surface Characteristics

Parameter Specification
Chemical Resistance PTFE face is inert to common acids, alkalis, salt spray, and organic solvents (pH 0–14 stability)
Surface Behavior Low coefficient of friction, UV/ozone resistant; textured reverse reduces relative slippage against internal insulation.

2. Procurement and Quality Verification Points

  • Coating Adhesion and Sintering: The PTFE layer must be fully fused and sintered. The coating must not delaminate, flake, or crack under repeated flexing or creasing.
  • Penetration Control: The dispersion penetration must be strictly monitored. Excessive strike-through makes the reverse slick and hard to handle; insufficient penetration lowers interface peel strength.
  • Surface Uniformity: The coated face must remain dense and flat, free from pinholes, exposed yarns, blisters, or foreign inclusions.
  • Color Consistency: Gray coatings are sensitive to shade variations. Bulk roll deliveries must maintain strict Delta-E color tolerances across different production lots.

4. Application Scope

Recommended Applications

  • Removable insulation blanket outer jacketing where the coated side faces ambient weather/chemicals and the reverse contacts insulation batts.
  • Sewn flexible covers requiring balanced cost and robust exterior weatherproofing.

Non-Recommended Applications

  • Environments requiring full liquid submersion or chemical immersion on both sides.
  • Welded assemblies requiring double-sided thermoplastic melt bonding (double-sided coated or laminated grades are recommended instead).
